Dan Plunkett Turns Pro

“I guess the last news I have is that Plunkett is pro. No real fancy party where we surprise him and shower him with gifts. Riding for Skate Mental is a gift that keeps on giving…right Dan. Anyway, Dan is one of the best skaters i’ve ever watched skate. Boards in shops Febuary 1st! “
I want to send out a big congrats to Dan! I’ve always really enjoyed this guys deep bag of tricks and consistency. He has fun when he skates and it shows. Well deserved sir!

Happy New Years to everyone, and I hope you all had a fun & safe holiday. We’ve made a few changes to the layout of the site and I hope everyone likes it. We have some new things planned for 2012. We intend to film at least 3 video parts this year of some local Atlanta skaters, so keep an eye out for that.

Grant Taylor – Skater Of The Year 2011
ATL’s own Grant Taylor was officially named Thrasher Magazine’s Skater Of The Year for 2011 and dropped a new sick video clip on the Thrasher website.
Big congrats to Grant for winning SOTY and bringing it home to ATL!
I can’t wait the see his part in The Nike SB Chronicles video that’s about to drop…
SkateATL Skatepark GPS Android App!
So, being an Android user, and a big fan of the GPS capabilities on my phone, I decided to create an android app that contains a list of all of the Georgia skateparks(at least I think I have them all on there) where all you have to do is click on the name of a skatepark and your phone will automatically open up Google Navigator and give you turn-by-turn directions to that park from wherever you’re currently located. I spent a lot of time making this. I know it will come in handy for me, but I’m also hoping some of you other Android users find it useful as well. I’d also love some feedback on it. You can scan the QR code in this post or just click this link to download the app.
Please feel free to leave comments regarding the app, let me know if you come across any bugs, if I left out any skateparks, etc.

Hazard County Skatepark Closed June 28th – July 2nd
Hazard County Skatepark will be closed from June 28th – July 2nd, but the shop will still be open. The park will be closed due to filming for Necessary Roughness, which will be aired on the USA network.

Damn Am 2011 @ Hazard County May 13th – 15th
-I originally posted this a few weeks back once it was posted on this Hazard site, but this is such a big deal contest that I’m bumping it back up to the top. As I mention below, this is NOT a contest to miss!
Hazard County has been added as a stop to Damn Am this year. Congrats to Jona and the rest of the hazard crew for getting this event at the park! The top 12 from this contest qualify for Tampa Am 2011. The contest will be May 13th – 15th and you can check out the schedule for the contest HERE at the Hazard site, and also HERE at the SPoTlight Productions site. This will no doubt be one of the biggest, if not the biggest contest going down in the Atlanta area this year. This will definitely be an event not to miss!
